1.
I heard the voice of Jesus say Come unto Me, and rest Lay down, thou weary one, lay down Thy head upon My breast I came to Jesus as I was Weary, and worn, and sad I found in Him a resting-place And He has made me glad I heard the voice of Jesus say Behold, I freely give The living water: thirsty one Stoop down, and drink, and live I came to Jesus, and I drank Of that life-giving stream My thirst was quenched my soul revived And now I live in Him I heard the voice of Jesus say “I am this dark world’s Light Look unto Me, thy morn shall rise And all thy day be bright" I looked to Jesus, and I found In Him my Star, my Sun And in that Light of life I’ll walk Till trav’lling days are done
2.
How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord Is laid for your faith in His excellent word What more can He say than to you He hath said To you who for refuge to Jesus have Fear not, I am with thee, oh, be not dismayed For I am thy God, and will still give thee aid I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand Upheld by My gracious, omnipotent hand When through the deep waters I call thee to go The rivers of sorrow shall not overflow For I will be with thee thy trouble to bless And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress The soul that on Jesus doth lean for repose I will not, I will not, desert to his foes That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake I’ll never, no never, no never forsake
3.
For all the saints, who from their labors rest Who thee by faith before the world confessed Thy name, O Jesus, be forever bless’d Alleluia, alleluia And when the strife is fierce the warfare long Steals on the ear, the distant triumph song And hearts are brave, again and arms are strongt Alleluia, alleluia Alleluia, alleluia From earth’s wide bounds, from ocean’s farthest coast Through gates of pearl streams in the countless host Singing to Father, Son, and Holy Ghost Alleluia, alleluia Alleluia, alleluia
4.
When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of glory died My richest gain I count but loss And pour contempt on all my pride See from His head, His hands, His feet Sorrow and love flow mingled down Did e’er such love and sorrow meet Or thorns compose so rich a crown I look upon your mercy Displayed upon the cross I offer up my life as A living sacrifice Were the whole realm of nature mine That were an offering far too small Love so amazing, so divine Demands my soul, my life, my all
5.
What can wash away my sin Nothing but the blood of Jesus What can make me whole again Nothing but the blood of Jesus Oh! precious is the flow That makes me white as snow No other fount I know Nothing but the blood of Jesus Nothing but the blood of Jesus Nothing can for sin atone Nothing but the blood of Jesus Naught of good that I have done Nothing but the blood of Jesus. This is all my hope and peace Nothing but the blood of Jesus This is all my righteousness Nothing but the blood of Jesus
6.
This is my Father's world And to my listening ears All nature sings, and round me rings The music of the spheres This is my Father's world I rest me in the thought Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas His hand the wonders wrought This is my Father's world The birds their carols raise The morning light, the lily white Declare their Maker's praise This is my Father's world He shines in all that's fair In the rustling grass I hear Him pass He speaks to me everywhere : This is my Father's world O let me ne'er forget That though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the Ruler yet This is my Father's world Why should my heart be sad The Lord is King: let the heavens ring God reigns; let earth be glad

about

Worship in the language of the people.

Cathedral Hymns is a collection of musicians and artists connected to the Cathedral Church of Saint Luke and Saint Paul, an Anglican Church in downtown Charleston, SC. Our desire is to make the music and hymns of our tradition accessible to people from all traditions.

While recording our first ep in the midst of a global pandemic, we realized the common thread in each song was comfort. Comfort that the God these songs address is near enough to hear and strong enough to help. Comfort that these words that have been sung for centuries have brought hope to people in the midst of trials, suffering, and even death. We sing these songs today because they are true for us too. And as you listen and sing along, we hope that Songs of Comfort, brings that same comfort to you.
